Hi everyone,
Been a little while since our last event since we have blogged. Yesterday Darien and I had the opportunity to go out and have an awesome day at Hamilton Mill Golf Course in Dacula, Ga not too far from Darien's home. We met so many AWESOME people and had a great time with them. We got to walk around and talk about Darien's condition and our goals as a foundation. Not only did we get the word out, but we touched a few lives while we were there. A friend of Darien's, Scott Stone, put together this awesome event at the golf course. Me, myself, could see the impact Darien had not only on Scott, but others that were there. As Darien and I rode around the golf course and watched everyone play (82 couples by the way, up from 40? last year) Darien and I couldn't believe the feedback we were getting. So many people came up to us after the fact and said "thank you" for basically bring this disease to their attention and being able to meet a strong willed, full of faith person like Darien. Everyone wanted to contribute some how not only last night, but in the future.
As Darien and I sat at the house that night, we counted the donations and to our surprise our final total was $2170!!!!! We just sat there and couldn't really say anything. So amazing how many blessings and people we met last night. Im still amazed.
Thank you soo much for everyone involved last night. Thank you too all of the people who donated items to be raffled, thank you to those who donated, thank you to those that played yesterday on a VERY HOTT day, thank you to Scott Stone for letting us as a foundation be apart of this event, thank you to the band (sorry didnt catch your names!!) for donating time to come out and play, thank you Austin for taking awesome pictures of the entire day (dont forget our copies!!) thank you to Hamilton Mill Golf Course for allowing us to be apart of the couple's tournament, and thank you Jesus Christ for the opportunity to spread the word of Parkinson's Disease and Your love and blessings that you continue to give to everyone!!
Lastly, thank you Darien for allowing me the opportunity to travel this road with you and to help not only spread the word of this disease and help someone in need, but also my personal walk with God and Im a better person because of it!! Love ya cuz!!!
Stay updated for more events and spread the word!! We are also on facebook now!!!

Wow, man this year is flying by!!! Anyway, getting soo excited with the upcoming event on April 25, 2009 @ 6:30. Seems like its been an eternity since we started. Thank you to all of those that have stuck beside us as we went through some tough times these past couple of months but we got through it!!
We are expecting a good turn out with both bands popularity in this area. The buzz has started to move around Peachtree City. House of Thomas was on local radio station J93.3 talking about their upcoming and started tour. Our event is a stop in their tour so we are excited about that.
Please help get the word out!!! Come out, have some fun, praise our awesome God, and most of all help us spread the word about PD and help us get our foundation off of the ground.
God is Love,
M

Hi everyone,
Just letting everyone know that we have agreed on another date for the first annual Parkinson's Disease Benefit Concert. We have chosen January 10, 2009. Same place, same time, just different date. Thank you to everyone being patient with the process. Our family actually has been through a lot lately with the loss of someone very very dear to our hearts. Please keep our family in your prayers. Also remember Darien's surgery is soon. Please keep him and his family in your prayers also.
We serve an AWESOME GOD, and HE WILL make everything ok.
Also added to the site is an address and link to send in donations.
Spread the word!!!!!

Hey guys,
Just letting everyone know that we are now an OFFICIAL organization!!!! WOOHOO!!!!Just waiting on the paperwork so that we can get the bank account rolling. I filed for it Saturday night and well, I got an email confirmation saying that we are official. Im guessing I'll get the paper work by the end of the week.
Tickets are ready to be picked up, just gotta meet with Robbie (lead singer of House of Thomas) to pick them up so we can start selling. I havent figured out a way we can sell them online yet but that will be my homework for the week.
Thanks again to everyone working with us to make this possible.
Stay updated on donations and tickets!!!!

Hey Guys,
Got some updates for everyone. We are all set for the music part of our benefit. A band called True Story has agreed to play our benefit. They are well known around the Peachtree City area. Most if not all of the band members go to the church. Crowds usually range from 200-300 people each time. They will be opening up for House Of Thomas that is ALSO well known around the area. Both bands have won the competition on J93.3 Battle of the Bands and have also opened up for big names in the Christian music community.
We are soo blessed to have had these guys (both bands) to agree to play our FIRST ever PD benefit concert. It will be a memorable experience that we CANT WAIT to have.
Next thing on our list is to get the word out and get the donations rolling in!!!!!
Stay updated for tickets and donations
In Christ,
Melissa

Sorry guys,
Been a little while since Ive blogged some info. Met with the Pastor of Peachtree City Christian and they have agreed to allow us to use their facility. Its an awesome church with ALOT of room so I see a lot of potential of us getting the first ever Darien Smith Foundation PD event. House of Thomas has also agreed to play our concert along with some younger bands MAYBE joining the list. Cathy and I have been pretty busy with getting everything together to start the donations and BIG THANKS to Tania (your awesome) for stepping up and helping with some of the fundraiser events.
Pastor Dillard is an incredibly nice person. He basically told us its our show, but he and his church is behind us all the way. Looking forward to publicity on Atlanta's J93.3 and also through House of Thomas. A letter should start circulating soon about the event and how to give donations. That is still a work in progress. We are gonna try to make it where you guys can donate online or send them in. Tickets will be for sell for the event also online OR at the event itself. Of course, there will only be a certain amount so jump on them as soon as you can.
Starting another week, as we count down closer to our event. THANK YOU to everyone that has signed up on the site and showed their support. Keep watching for updates. I know I put a date up but I took it down because it may or may not be changed to Friday, but Im still shooting for Saturday.
In Christ,
Melissa

Ok, I think Im learning my first lesson of working with God. I have been checking my email all day back and forth waiting to hear from somewhere where we can have the benefit. I kinda got frustrated today when I called a place and they havent returned my call. I know its okay, because I have an awesome God on my side and He WILL come through for me. Just need PATIENCE and FAITH!!!!!
A little update, a church is interested in holding our event. Just waiting for everyone to come to an agreement of date and time.
Keep you updated
In Christ,
Melissa

This past week has really been a good one. Not only did I have to get back in the groove of working after being off for a week, I started to focus on the benefit. Almost have a date nailed down for the event and I have a few emails into a few surrounding churches. Just waiting on their feedback. Also, a lot of people are volunteering to help. Man, what a God we serve. So many people are stepping up and I CANT BELIEVE the feedback we are getting. THANK YOU
Keep everyone updated as more info surfaces
In Christ,
Melissa
